4 Fun Ways To Serve Gelato At Your Restaurant

by Zoey Howell

If you are thinking about carrying gelato as a dessert in your restaurant, you are going to want to find a few fun ways of preparing and serving the gelato. As with any dessert, if you want to drive sales, it is all about the presentation and the flavor. Here are a few fun ways to serve gelato in your restaurant.

Way #1: Drizzle with Olive Oil

If you want to serve gelato in the true Italian way, try serving a scoop of gelato with a drizzle of either extra virgin olive oil or balsamic vinegar over the top. High-quality olive oil has a peppery and fruity flavor that works well with really creamy and flavorful gelato.

Traditional balsamic vinegar offers a beautiful contrast in flavors. It may sound strange at first, but once you try these drizzles, you may never want to eat your gelato on its own again.

Way #2: Add Some Espresso

Italians are known not only for great gelato; they are also known for liking really strong espresso. An affogato is an Italian dessert where you take a shot of espresso and pour it over your gelato. This dessert works best when paired with a gelato flavor such as vanilla or hazelnut.

For a little more flavor, you can also add a little bit of hazelnut liqueur to the mix. If you decide to add hazelnut liqueur, mix it together with the shot of espresso before pouring it over the gelato.

Way #3: With Fresh Fruit

Gelato is often made using fresh fruit, and fresh gelato often reflects whatever fruits are in season at the time, which is why pairing gelato with fresh fruit is a great idea.

The fruit you pair the gelato with doesn't have to be the same flavor as the gelato. Gelato works great with strawberries, blueberries, or some fresh peaches. You can also serve it with some spiced pears or spiced apples. Get creative with your fresh fruit and flavor combinations.

Way #4: Add a Wafer Spoon

Instead of giving your guests a spoon to eat their gelato with, give them an edible water spoon. An edible wafer spoon is fun to eat, and when it comes to eating the wafer spoon, the crisp texture pairs perfectly with the gelato. Instead of a wafer cone, use a wafer spoon.

If you want to change up the desserts you serve at your restaurant, consider serving some fresh gelato in a creative way. All four of the ideas above would work perfectly in a restaurant setting and would add some variety to your dessert menu.
